Volunteer Roles
Children in most Child Care Institutions attend schools present outside the institution, which follow state boards or set curricula. Our interventions focus on encouraging and supporting their classroom responsibilities, beyond just academics. We help them with homework, provide extra help in some subjects, or even teach subjects that volunteers might find exciting and are proficient in, as long as it falls within the children's experience level. Children enter the CCIs at different stages of their lives, and learning gaps are likely to exist. Our goal is to narrow these gaps through specialized interventions.

Educator
Child Care institutions are temporary and transitional spaces for the children, as beyond a certain age, they will begin to function independently in the outside world, away from a protected institution. Equipping children with adequate life skills is necessary, as this will allow them to interact with these places rationally, effectively, and with understanding. The ‘guide” will go beyond teaching the children what is right or wrong. It is about children expressing themselves, understanding their thought process, having the ability to coexist and make bonds with the people around them, and how they perceive external emotions and perspectives.

Guide
Children regularly engage in sports, arts, and games in most CCIs. Beyond the children within the institution, they do not get to interact with other individuals. Additionally, caregiving is inconsistent due to a low caregiver-to-child ratio. Through this role, we aim to facilitate companionship through games and playful activities, helping children make connections not only within the institution but also with volunteers who accompany them through these experiences and activities. These activities often create opportunities for dialogic exchange, which helps the child feel valued and allows their opinion and perspective to be understood in a greater context.
